Nova Scotia’s Government is Pitching In

The province of Nova Scotia likes Keith’s beer. A lot.

The government is spending $4.5 million to help Labatt Breweries expand the Oland Brewery in Halifax, the only place where Keith’s India Pale Ale is produced.

That represents 10% of the $45-million tab needed for restorations.

Premier Rodney MacDonald called it an investment in a historic manufacturing company that would increase exports and protect the jobs for the 250 people employed at the plant.

Labatt plans to upgrade and expand the production line, allowing for more beer to be brewed, as well as the packaging end.

About 65 per cent of the beer produced at the Oland Brewery is exported outside the Maritime provinces. Maybe with the expansions, we’ll see Keith’s south of the boarder. One can only hope…
