Goblets, more delicate and long stemmed, differ from Chalices which are much heavier and have thicker walls.
Both glasses are charged with maintaining head, a feat accomplished often by scoring the inside bottom of the glass, which creates a point whereupon carbon dioxide is constantly forced upward, creating an everlasting inverted cascading of bubbles.
Wide mouthed for deep sipping, the main benefit of this glass is head retention.
Typical Beers that use a Goblet or Chalice are:
- Belgian IPA
- Belgian Strong Dark Ale
- Berliner Weissbier
- Dubbel
- Quadrupel (Quad)
- Tripel
