Bohemia ClásicaLooking out the window right now I’m watching the rain pour down and wishing I was someplace warm. Luckily I was sent a 6 pack of Bohemia Clásica from the Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma Brewery (the same brewery that brews Sol, Dos Equis, and Tecate) in Mexico, so I can at least pretend I’m sitting on a warm beach in Mexico watching the waves come and go.

Although Bohemia is a fairly popular Mexican beer, I had yet to try it, and to be honest wasn’t expecting much from it.  Bohemia isn’t your typical Cerveza, it’s a pilsner reminiscent of many Czech beers.

The bottle is pretty plain with a nice gold foil around it to give it a luxurious feel to it.  It almost reminds me of the foil Chipotle uses to wrap their burritos (and I love Chipotle so that’s a plus).

Pouring the beer it was pretty much what I expected, a light golden color with lots of carbonation that had a small head that quickly left. There was slight lacing on the glass and it had a similar look to a Budweiser.

Luckily the smell and taste wasn’t that of a Bud.  It had a nice clean aroma with hints of floral, corn, and fruit.  The aroma wasn’t overpowering at all.

To be fair, I’m not a huge pilsner fan, but Bohemia is one of the better beers I’ve tasted in this style. I really liked the way the flavor of this beer changed.  At first it starts of pretty fruity, then the malt flavor really breaks through, finally it is finished with a light dry hop flavor. The body is very light and there is quite a bit of carbonation which makes this a very easy beer to drink.

The great thing about Bohemia is that it will pair well with many foods.  I’d definitely drink it with some spicy foods (not just Mexican) or barbecue chicken.

Overall I definitely like Bohemia Clásica, even though it’s not my favorite style of beer. They definitely do a great job for such a mass produced beer and wouldn’t hesitate to drink it again.
