Shipyard Brewing-owned Sea Dog Brewing Company is opening its third brewpub in the state of Maine in the month of May. The brewpub, which will join the Topsham & Bangor locations, is set to open at 125 Western Ave. in South Portland; the location previously occupied by Eggspectation.

The new South Portland location will be open for breakfast (served all day; a new treat for Sea Dog), as well as lunch and dinner, and will be run by Dale Carrier who has been with the Bangor Sea Dog for 9 years. The South Portland location is also now accepting new members for its Mug Club. An annual mug club membership is $50 and includes a membership card, personal numbered mug, special “club only” pricing, exclusive t-shirt, and free lunch on your birthday.

I personally have only been to the Topsham location before, but Sea Dog does seem to have decent food (pub fare and seafood, mostly) and their brewpub-only beers (including an IPA, Hazelnut Porter, a Blonde, Brown, and Stout) are much more interesting then the fruity beers they contract brew and distribute through Shipyard. It will be nice to have a Sea Dog location close by and I’m sure they will do quite well capitalizing on the Maine Mall traffic (even though the location will be competing with the newly opened Sebago Brewing right down the street).
