Something I couldn’t be more excited about, Shipyard Brewing Co. has announced that their seasonal favorite, Prelude Special Ale (which had previously only been available for a very short season right around the holidays),  has been named the brewery’s official winter beer and will now have a place on shelves across the country from November through January. Prelude’s packaging has been updated, too, with a painting by Maine artist Paul Black, which features a classic winter scene set in the heart of Kennebunkport where Prelude first began.

According to Shipyard, Prelude is a rich, nutty, full-bodied English Ale with an inviting amber hue and hoppy finish. Prelude has a 6.7% alcohol volume, making this seasonal specialty the perfect winter warmer.

In 2006, Prelude was named one of the World’s 50 Best Beers in the UK International Beer Challenge. With an overall score of 86, plenty of BAers seem to agree.

  1. “Prelude” is a fabulous ale. I’m happy to read it’ll be Shipyard’s official winter ale for years to come. Such flavor and gravity… hell yes!
